According to ASCA, responsive services are activities designed to meet students’ immediate needs and concerns. Responsive services may include counseling in individual or small-group settings or crisis response (ASCA National Model A Framework For School Counseling Programs, n.d.). Through the activity of individual student planning, a school counselor, may work to connect students to longer-term resources and services including therapy with an outside mental health professional. It is in this capacity a school-counselor can partner with Equity Associates network to connect students to specific and specialized, highly-qualified licensed professional counselors that meet unique needs of the students in need of longer-term therapy services. A mental health counselor is qualified to evaluate and treat mental health conditions by providing longer-term counseling or psychotherapy whereas this would not be in the scope of the school counselors’ recommended activities. While ASCA does not recommend a school counselor coordinate a student study team, participating on Equity Associates Coordinated Care Team would fall within the ASCA recommended school counselor activities.
